In connection with the 32nd anniversary of the independence of Uzbekistan, President Shavkat Mirziyaev signed a decree pardoning 286 convicts. Of those pardoned, 109 are completely released from serving their main sentence, 116 are released from serving their sentence on parole, and the sentence of 25 persons was replaced with a more lenient one.

US’s Ex-President Barack Obama has written a letter of support for Dr Yunus, expressing his hope that the Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist can continue to do his ‘important’ work. “I have long been inspired by your efforts to empower people through offering them the means to lift their families out of poverty,” said the letter.  The High Court in Mombasa has stopped a Kadhi Court from presiding over a dispute between a family of both Christian and Muslim faith. Justice Olga Sewe issued the order stopping the Muslim Court in Kwale after one of the parties complained that they were being subjected to a court that could not deal with their issues.

On this upcoming 31st of August 2023, Malaysia will be celebrating its 66th year of independence from the British. Every year a theme will be chosen and this year it is ‘Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan' (Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope). As usual, every independence day celebration will not be complete without a parade.  This year the parade will be held in Putrajaya where more than 19,000 participants will be involved.
