These shootings are usually followed by widespread protests- especially when they occur at a school. But there’s been no substantial change – the USA citizens still have an apparently unimpeachable “right to bear arms”, a right that is protected by the executive, legislative and judicial system.

The recent disturbances in Leicester have once again shone a light about the disturbing far right fascist doctrine of Hindutva. The violence in Leicester cannot be blamed on inter-communal tension or on a cricket match, just as climate change cannot be blamed on not wearing woolly jumpers. There is a background to these issues which cannot be ignored.
