The Vienna Conference and the Mirage of Democratic Change: The Only Path to Salvation is the Establishment of the Righteous Caliphate!

The fifth session of the Vienna Process was held in Austria’s capital, bringing together a number of political leaders, civil society activists, and former military officials opposed to the ruling regime. This conference took place at a time when the Islamic world is enduring one of the darkest periods in its history, with Muslims confined within artificial nation-states. However, resisting and fighting against rulers based on secular, democratic, or ethnic ideologies contradicts Islamic Sharia and serves only to create discord (fitneh) among Muslims. Islam establishes its governance system on the foundation of Islamic belief, and all political, legal, and military struggles must stem from it. In contrast, the Vienna Process is built upon secular and nationalist values, which are not only non-Islamic but have also proven to be a failed experiment.

Democracy and republic are foreign values that stand in contradiction to the beliefs of Afghan society. The devout people of Afghanistan have made tremendous sacrifices for the establishment of Islamic values. The implementation of Western political models is not only at odds with Islam but also fundamentally opposed to the aspirations of the Afghan people. Instead of working toward the unity and dignity of the Islamic Ummah, the participants of the Vienna Conference seek to establish Western-inspired structures that, over the past two decades, have only resulted in corruption, war, and division.

For the Islamic Ummah to reclaim its dignity and power, it must liberate itself from all forms of intellectual, political, and military dependency of Western colonialism. How can those who beg and plead for Western support ever restore honor to the Ummah? How can the participants of this conference will bring about meaningful and transformative change in the lives of the Afghan people when they themselves have played an active role in the country’s current crisis? It is imperative for all parties involved—whether the Afghan government, its opponents, or its allies—to recognize that the Islamic Ummah, in this era of decline, has already experimented with every Western and Eastern political model, yet their problems remain unresolved, continuing to lurch from one crisis to another.

In reality, the salvation of Afghanistan and the entire Muslim world does not lie in nation-states or secular alliances, but rather in returning to Islam, establishing the Righteous Caliphate (Khilafah Rashidah) upon the method of the Prophethood, and proclaiming the Deen of Allah (swt). As the unwavering commitment of the Ummah to the covenant of Allah (swt) and the re-establishment of the Righteous Caliphate— the sole vital issue and the only authentic model of Islamic governance—remains the only path to political success. Any alternative roadmap is merely a repetition of past failed experiments, a futile chase after political mirages that will bring nothing but humiliation in this world and eternal loss in the Hereafter.

[الَّذِينَ يَتَّخِذُونَ الْكَافِرِينَ أَوْلِيَاءَ مِنْ دُونِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَيَبْتَغُونَ عِنْدَهُمُ الْعِزَّةَ فَإِنَّ الْعِزَّةَ لِلَّهِ جَمِيعًا]

“Those who take disbelievers as allies instead of the believers—do they seek power and honor from them? But indeed, all power and honor belong to Allah alone!” [Surah An-Nisa, 4:139].
