In the Name of Allah, The Gracious, The Merciful Debate on Afghanistan War too little too late
Sydney, Australia, 22nd October 2010 - Debate in the Federal Parliament took place this week on Australia's continued involvement in the invasion of Afghanistan. Bipartisan support was expressed by the Government and Opposition with a handful of politicians dissenting.
Uthman Badar, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Australia, said about the debate,
"This debate is extremely misplaced, far too little and far too late. It comes nine years too late as any justification for involvement in the war should have been debated before it was undertaken. It is worth too little insofar as it is no more than a talkfest with no implications on any change in policy - not even a vote on whether the involvement should continue. And it is entirely misplaced as politicians from both sides continue to peddle false narratives about the rationale of the invasion."
"Australia's involvement in the invasion of Afghanistan has little to do with any threat to national security or even global terrorism. Rather it represents the continuation of a superficially though out acquiescence to American foreign policy. The invasion in origin is no more than an American war for American political and economic interests. Not for the first time in history Australian lives are being used as canon fodder for the imperial designs of others. Little wonder than that support for the war is increasingly on the wane - a fact being rather casually ignored by the politicians."
