In the Name of Allah, The Gracious, The Merciful Tyrant Falls, Western Leaders do Backflip
Saturday 12 February - Following similar announcements from officials in the US and Europe, Australian officials have welcomed the resignation of Hosni Mubarak. Kevin Rudd and Julie Bishop, Minister and Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs respectively, have expressed their support for the people of Egypt and encouraged democratic change.
"...the Australian Government therefore salutes the courage of the Egyptian people and we look forward to working with the authorities in Egypt on the future development of Egyptian democracy" said Kevin Rudd, whilst Julie Bishop expressed similar sentiments in saying, "The people of Egypt have an historic opportunity to move to an open and democratic system of government...The Coalition supports the aspirations of the Egyptian people for greater freedom and tolerance."
Uthman Badar, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Australia, said in this regard:
"Western leaders have taken hypocrisy to a new level. The posturing is sickening. After supporting dictators in the Muslim World, including Hosni Mubarak, for decades they now change their colours and position themselves as being with the people."
"Western officials can say what they like. No one will forget what has been etched in the annals of history. No one will forget their propping up of dictators like Mubarak in order to secure economic and political interests. No one will forget the decades of diplomatic and military ties with dictators. No one will forget the billions of dollars of financial ‘aid' given to despots. No one will forget the lives of repression and extreme poverty lived by millions under western-backed tyrants."
"If Kevin Rudd and Julie Bishop are sincere in supporting people against tyranny and oppression, they should immediately cease Australia's foreign policy of slavish submission to foreign powers like the US and their systematic exploitation of weaker nations. They can start with ending their unjust invasion of Afghanistan and their unwanted interference in places like Indonesia and Pakistan."
