Press Release The government's case against Mahmudur Rahman is yet another attempt to silence those who speak against the imperialists
Newspapers have reported that yesterday (07 June, 2010) the government filed a case against the acting editor of Daily Amar Desh, Mahmudur Rahman, naming his as an accused in the false case filed against the Official Spokesman of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Bangladesh in April under the Anti-Terrorism Act. This is the 5th case against Mahmudur Rahman after the government closed down his newspaper and arrested him in the beginning of the month. Hizb ut-Tahrir condemns the closing down of the newspaper and the arrest and harassment of Mahmudur Rahman. This only highlights the government's disregard for so-called free speech and freedom of the press which they trumpet and confirms that free speech and free press is only applicable when it is used against Islam and supports the agenda of the imperialists and their agents.
Furthermore it is clear that the government is desperate to silence any expression of opposition against their imperialist masters, particularly the US, Britain and India. This is the reason for banning Hizb ut-Tahrir, and arresting members and activists of the party by filing false cases under the Anti-Terrorism Act, including multiple cases against party spokesman Mohiuddin Ahmed. And now Mahmudur Rahman is being named as an accused in such cases. The so-called Anti-Terrorism Act is nothing but a tool in the hand of the government for suppressing those who expose their treachery and the plots of their imperialist masters. It is known that Mahmudur Rahman was outspoken against the government's mischief, American and Indian plans regarding Bangladesh, and the tyrannical action of banning Hizb ut-Tahrir.
