Press Release
UK Women and Children's Protest Against the Al-Qubayr and Houla Massacres and Assad's Continuing Slaughter of Syria's Muslims

Hundreds of women and children from across the UK will gather at a demonstration [2:30pm Sat 16 June, Syrian Embassy] against the horrific Al-Qubayr and Houla massacres as well as the continuing bloodbath that the merciless, blood-thirsty tyrant Bashar Al-Assad is executing against his people. A section of the protest will be led by the voices of children.

The Al-Qubayr and Houla massacres where the majority of victims were women and children, brutally murdered in cold blood in their own homes, are only the latest of the horrendous daily acts of unspeakable brutality enacted by the criminal Assad regime against the courageous Muslims of Syria who have risen against his oppressive rule. Children as young as 10 have been tortured while others have been used as human shields, placed on tanks to protect pro-Assad soldiers from being fired at. Women have been subjected to brutal rapes by regime security forces in front of their fathers, husbands, and children.

Dr. Nazreen Nawaz, Women's Media Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain commented, "Muslim women in Britain condemn these utterly deplorable acts of butchery by the murderer Assad and his regime who have turned Syria into a slaughter-house. What kind of monster kills babies to save his throne? Not content with the slaughter of protestors, he has now desperately taken to exterminating their families in their own homes, knowing that his power lies on a knife-edge due to the heroic actions of Syria's Muslims. Does he feel that this campaign of murder will save his neck? Rather it will only accelerate his welcome demise by re-enforcing to all the urgent need to remove this illegitimate, brutal tyrant and replace him with a system and leadership that sincerely cares for the needs of the Syrian people".

"Calls for Western and UN intervention in Syria must be rejected outright. How can a redundant body such as the UN that has a legacy of failing to protect the blood of Muslims in Bosnia, Palestine, and Iraq now be trusted to safeguard the lives of Syria's Muslims. Furthermore, it was Western intervention that installed and supported dictators such as Assad and Mubarak in the Muslim world. Their intervention in the current crisis will only result in establishing their new puppet ruler in power who will secure their interests at the expense of impoverishing and oppressing the people, marking a new chapter in the subjugation of Syria."

"Rather it is the armies of the Muslim world who must mobilize to stop this bloodbath now! It is criminal that leaders such as Erdogan of Turkey who presents himself as a leader embodying Islamic values and who presides over one of the largest armies of the world, out sources his soldiers to fight America's war in Afghanistan for US interests but restrains them from moving to the aid of their brothers and sisters in Syria when they are bleeding."

"Muslim women in Britain stand in solidarity with their brothers and sisters in Syria in their struggle to topple Assad and his regime. We call for the Muslim armies to embrace their honourable role as protectors of their Ummah and rise to their great responsibility of stopping the bloodshed in Syria and removing its tyrant, making them heroes of the Muslims rather than those who have betrayed their trust. And we call for the establishment of the Khilafah "Caliphate" that will replace dictatorship with guardianship and remove the constant state of fear and oppression in which Muslims in Syria and across the Muslim world live. It is a state that will ensure a truly just and accountable political system, economic prosperity, the fair distribution of wealth, and harmony between Muslims and non-Muslims, heralding a new chapter of justice, security, and dignity for the region."

Notes to Editor: The protest will take place at 2.30pm, Saturday June 16th 2012 outside the Syrian Embassy, 8 Belgrave Square, London, SW1X 8PH
