Press Release
Hundreds of Women to Attend UK Women's March in Support of the Women and Children of Syria

The women of Hizb ut Tahrir are to hold a 'Women's March in Support of the Women and Children of Syria' in London on Sunday 22nd September 2013, with hundreds of women and children from across the UK expected to attend. Demonstrators will convene at Paddington Green at 3:30pm, then march down Edgware Road and end at the Syrian embassy where there will be speeches.

Umm Abdullah Khan, Women's Media Representative of Hizb ut Tahrir Britain commented, "Over the past two and a half years, official figures state that over 100,000 men, women and children have been killed in Syria and over two million have been made refugees, one million being children. Women and children have suffered endless death, humiliation and destitution inflicted upon them by their tyrant secular ruler Bashar Al-Assad, as the international community and regimes of the Muslim world have simply watched on, allowing this genocide to unfold. We believe that this abandonment of the Syrian Muslims to their bloodbath is due to the unique nature of their struggle which is not simply to remove a tyrant but predominantly to replace an oppressive secular system with the rule of Islam under a Caliphate state. It is a struggle therefore that various Western governments and politicians have attempted to demonise by linking the resistance to terrorism and extremism, despite the fact that it is a revolution born from ordinary men and women wishing to live and govern by their deeply held Islamic beliefs and heritage."

"We therefore reject Western military intervention in Syria which we do not believe is genuine over protecting the lives of the Syrian Muslims, considering that these same Western governments have given Assad the green light for over two and a half years to slaughter his people; have used depleted uranium upon the Muslims of Iraq during their invasion of the country; have executed their own massacres such as in Fallujah in the Muslim world; and continue a policy of drone attacks on the Muslims of Pakistan and Afghanistan despite having killed hundreds of innocent women and children - all for the sake of securing political and economic interests in the region. Colonial governments have demonstrated repeatedly that they do not help ordinary people, they help themselves. We therefore reject any form of Western intervention in Syria that will simply result in the installation of the next Western client regime, the Syrian National Coalition in the country that will serve Western interests rather than the people, as well as crush any Islamic uprising, robbing the people of their aspirations and usurping their revolution. Rather the people of Syria must be left to define their own political future."

"This women's march aims at expressing the outrage of Muslim women in Britain to the continuing bloodbath in Syria, where the primary victims have been women and children, and to demonstrate their solidarity with and support of the struggle of their sisters in Syria to remove this murderous Ba'athist regime and replace him with the Islamic system of the Caliphate that will act as a guardian of the people, protecting their blood and sincerely taking care of their needs - Muslim and non-Muslim, men and women alike as obliged by Islam. The event also seeks to raise a call to the Muslim armies, many of whom are amongst the largest in the world, including in Turkey and Egypt to mobilise to defend the lives of their brothers and sisters in Syria and to give their support to the realization of the aspirations of the people.

We call all women who wish to see an end to the slaughter of the women and children of Syria, the removal of their long-state of oppression under dictatorship, and the creation of a more just and dignified future for their land to attend this important march."
