86 Years Imprisonment for Dr. Aafia Highlights the Farce of US Justice and the Ruthlessness of US Democracy

London, UK, September 23rd 2010 - On Thursday 23rd September, a Federal US Court in Manhattan, New York sentenced Dr. Aafia to 86 years in prison for the attempted murder of US officers in Afghanistan. It follows a farce of a trial and courtroom circus based upon bogus claims that resulted in a guilty verdict despite the absence of any credible evidence. It was a case tried on hate towards Dr. Aafia, Muslims, and Islam rather than fact - well orchestrated to conceal the brutal ordeal suffered by this innocent woman and her three children at the hands of US authorities.

Dr Nazreen Nawaz, Women's Media Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain commented, "The scandalous conviction and sentence against Dr. Aafia is a further indictment of US democracy. This is justice American style - where an innocent woman is convicted based upon prejudice rather than fact. It is a system that is willing to execute a brutal crime against a young mother and her children for political gain; a system that is willing to trade in abductions, secret detentions, and torture to secure national interests; an inhumane, merciless system based upon a philosophy of "anything goes, to achieve our goals", that has displayed its blatant disregard for justice or human rights - where even children are acceptable political prisoners. The true criminal here is not Dr. Aafia but Western democracy."

"The rancid stench of betrayal reeks from every inch of the Zardari government. Unashamedly they have abandoned this innocent Muslim woman into the clutches of those whose hands are drenched with the blood of Muslims, having used her as a bargaining chip to maintain favor amongst their Western masters and to secure a flow of dollars into their hands. Despite the horrific ordeal suffered by Dr. Aafia at the hands of US authorities, the Pakistani leadership continues to gladly embrace her oppressors and aid their War on Terror that has resulted in the incarceration, abuse, and slaughter of hundreds of Pakistani Muslims. Shamelessly, they accept to be "slapped in the face" by Western governments who abduct and torture their citizens, steal their resources, and violate the sovereignty of Pakistan while slavishly placing a leash around their own necks and following orders. It is these Muslim rulers who should be behind bars for their treachery, not Dr. Aafia."

Do they really believe that Muslims can be force-fed a system through occupation, wars and puppet rulers, whose hallmark has become oppression and whose legacy is injustice? The world has seen Western democracy for what it really is - a champion of injustice, a leader of terror, a fore-runner in sowing death and destruction upon humanity."

It will be a state that will wipe away the misery, pain, and tears of the Muslim Ummah and herald a new dawn of hope, strength and justice to the Muslim world. It will be a state that will present to humanity the true appreciation of human life, human dignity, justice and the rights of the human being."
