Press Release
Hizb-ut Tahrir Hosts Women's Seminar Regarding the Economic Exploitation of Indonesian Female Migrant Workers and Women across the Muslim World

The Women Section in The Central Media Office of Hizb-ut Tahrir in coordination with Hizb-ut Tahrir Indonesia will be hosting a seminar on Tuesday, 6th November 2012, in Indonesia to discuss the causes and solutions to the ongoing exploitation and mass dehumanization of Indonesia's millions of female migrant workers as well as millions of other women across the Muslim world. The event is a response to the controversial ads that appeared in Malaysia last week, provocatively reading, "Indonesian maids now on SALE!!!" Speakers will include Iffah Rochman, Spokeswoman of Hizb-ut Tahrir Indonesia, Dita Indah Sari, Spokeswoman of the Labour Ministry, Muslihah from the organization, Migrant Care, and Fika Komara, South-East Asia Member of the Central Media Office of Hizb-ut Tahrir.

The seminar is part of a campaign launched by the Women Section in the Central Media Office of Hizb-ut Tahrir that will be addressing the causes of the economic exploitation and deplorable levels of poverty to which women across the Muslim world are subjugated under the current systems and leaderships of the region and presenting the Khilafah "Caliphate" as a system that offers a real solution to their crippling reality. The campaign will culminate in an international women's conference on the subject in Indonesia in December.

Dr. Nazreen Nawaz, Women's Representative of the Central Media Office of Hizb-ut Tahrir, commented:

"This seminar, campaign, and conference will place a spotlight on the failed leaderships of the Muslim world and the exploitative and detrimental capitalist system, implemented in Indonesia and by many other governments in the region that has pushed millions of women into desperate poverty, forcing many to leave their homes and children to seek employment, or work under slave-like conditions in backbreaking jobs to feed themselves and their families. In addition, the capitalist system that sanctifies wealth creation and securing profit above all other values in life has dehumanised women to nothing but economic commodities that bring financial benefit to their state. This is regardless of the harmful physical, and mental impact upon them or the harmful consequences upon society, for it is system where government revenue speaks louder than human suffering."

"Such a deplorable state of financial hardship and exploitation cannot continue for the region's women. A few changes in labour or migrant laws are meaningless actions that have no impact on alleviating this dire state of economic oppression. Rather there has to be a radically alternative system implemented in the Muslim world that truly cares for the welfare and wellbeing of its women and views them as dignified human beings to be provided for and protected always, and not as objects of wealth creation. This seminar, campaign, and conference will present the Khilafah "Caliphate" model of governance as the system that embodies this view of women and offers sound Islamic economic policies that can lift the women of the Muslim world from their desperate poverty and generate an environment of economic prosperity, alleviating their suffering and bringing real change to their lives."
