STATEMENT OF MUSLIMAH HIZB UT TAHRIR INDONESIA
THE SPREAD CIRCULATION OF THE BACTERIA SAKAZAKII-TAINTED MILK

This week Indonesian society, especially mothers, were shocked to understand the circulation of milk contaminated with the bacteria - Enterobacter Sakazakii. They are extreamly worried about the food provided to their children and the standards of regulation. Moreover, the Ministry of Health failed in its promise to officially release the names of milk containing the bacteria.

The circulation of foods and beverages containing bacteria and dangerous substances such as melamine is not really new  in Indonesia. The case of Sakazakii- tainted milk is just an indicator of how the threat of dangerous foods circulating in the market, has not only has reached the unacceptable levels, but is also more widespread. Every day more and more kinds of food and beverage products in the market are found to be unhealthy.

Growing concern among people, especially mothers is by no means unfounded as consumer protection takes second place to the financial profits of companies. The current crisis indicates clearly that governement measures to ensure the safe nutrition of the nation are far from sufficient.  People can see that the Ministry of Health and The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM)  often respond to such cases in a reactionary, selective manner, without  comprehensive and proactive policies to prevent such health scares. If this situation continues, greater the number of people will be in danger and the next generation can suffer long term health problems due to the food they consume.

Responding to this condition, Muslimah Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia state:

1. The government should take full responsibility to fulfill the basic needs of the community including food and beverage concerns. The monitoring systems should provide health assurances on all food standards that is halalan thayyiban. There should be systematic efforts to eradicate every threat to health and eliminate dangerous substances in all products released onto the market. Governing bodies should act sincerely and speedily in providing appropriate guarantees to eliminate uncertainties among consumers.
Remember the Prophet (SAW) says:

"A priest is the shepherd. And he'll be held accountable for the people they lead."

2. Muslims are obliged to keep themselves and society healthy and should account the government in making to making greater efforts in keeping the public far from the danger. We should acknowledge their failure to refer to Islam in looking after the affairs of the Ummah.

3. The only system proven throughout history able to guarantee the needs of the people Daulah Khilafah "Caliphate" Islamiyah. It is obligatory for us to fight for the return of  Islamic law in the institutions of Khilafah "Caliphate" Islamiyah.
