When They Meet You, They Reveal Their Enmity To You...

It is two weeks since our 42 year old brother Hemed Salim, who has mental problems and a father of four daughters, was last seen. After being arrested by police on Sunday of 2nd February 2014 during the killings inside Masjid Musa, the distressed family of Hemed has visited hospitals and police stations but up to now, they do not know the fate of their loved one. The unfortunate issue is that police are unable to explain the whereabouts of Hemed in front of court! To add more insult, they now shamelessly allege that Hemed escaped from their custody without explaining how!

This adversity of Hemed continues to expose the reality of Kenyan police; and how they undertake their responsibilities of providing security to the public. This is happening under the pretext of conducting reforms in the police department and now that senior police officers are being vetted under the pretext of enhancing security! The much touted new constitution which was alleged to guarantee human rights has been expectedly turned into another piece of paper to be rubbished! The reality is that all these will not end as Capitalist governments constantly instruct their police forces to commit barbarism by force and violence against the public while at the same time protecting evil rulers who shed the blood of citizens as revealed in Syria. It should be remembered that research conducted last year by Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) reported that most Kenyans are scared to report persecution and torture committed by police.

We in Hizb ut Tahrir / East Africa view this incident as a series of many incidents of oppression committed against Muslims before including some being renditioned outside the country with some being gruesomely killed! Certainly, Muslims worldwide are living in great fear against the brutality and evil by police forces. The tribulations of Hemed are enough evidence that Kenyan police have entered the ranks of endangering the future of Muslim youths under the guise of fighting so-called fundamentalists. Furthermore, we should not forget that the rich are killing our youths in Kenya because of distributing drugs among the Muslims!

In conclusion, this sad situation should motivate us to strive faster in calling to Islam as an ideology - complete way of life - to return Islam into our lives by establishing the Khilafah "Caliphate" state in the Muslims lands. It is only in this state that all citizens, be they Muslims or non-Muslims will live in peace by having their rights protected including property and dignity. The police in a Khilafah "Caliphate" state will be in the forefront to provide their security and not cause chaos like that by current police.
