Imran Khan Strengthens America’s Economic Colonialism of Pakistan by Surrendering to the IMF and World Bank

Regarding the ongoing furious debate over the appointments of a former IMF official as the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan and a former World Bank official as the Advisor to the Prime Minister for Finance, it is certainly not enough to merely reject Western economic hit men. In order for Pakistan to escape its current course of economic destruction, any dealing whatsoever with the World Bank and IMF must be rejected. The IMF and World Bank are such a great sources of harm that the US military considers that colonialist financial institutions, such as the IMF, World Bank and OECD, are financial, unconventional, “weapons in times of conflict up to and including large-scale general war.” (US Army’s “Field Manual (FM) 3-05.130, Army Special Operations Forces Unconventional Warfare,” September 2008).

Moreover, the current regime pursues dealings with the IMF and World Bank even though it is fully aware of the economic destruction that results. In an interview published in the British newspaper, The Guardian, on 18 September 2011, Imran Khan warned, “A country that relies on aid? Death is better than that. It stops you from achieving your potential, just as colonialism did. Aid is humiliating. Every country I know that has had IMF or World Bank programmes has only impoverished the poor and enriched the rich.”

O Muslims of Pakistan! For decades now, under successive regimes, you have only known of a continuously declining economy and increased hardship through the agreements with the IMF and World Bank. Indeed, the PML-N and PPP criticism of the PTI is like the pot calling the kettle black for they all consider dealing with the IMF and World Bank compulsory. However, our great Deen firmly rejects all dealings with colonialist institutions, whether the IMF or the World Bank. The colonialist tools allow the kuffar to have dominance over our affairs even though Allah (swt) said,

(وَلَن يَجْعَلَ اللَّهُ لِلْكَافِرِينَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ سَبِيلًا) “Allah (swt) does not permit the believers to grant the kuffar authority over them.” [Surah An-Nisa’a 4:141]. The colonialist tools are able to inflict great harm upon us through their dealings even though RasulAllah (saw) said, «لاَ ضَرَرَ وَلاَ ضِرَارَ» “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.” [Muwatta Imam Malik, Ibn Majah]. And the colonialists tools are authorities that rule by other than Islam, which Allah (swt) ordered us to not only reject, but to disbelieve in. Allah (swt) said,

(أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُمْ آمَنُوا بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَتَحَاكَمُوا إِلَى الطَّاغُوتِ وَقَدْ أُمِرُوا أَن يَكْفُرُوا بِهِ وَيُرِيدُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَن يُضِلَّهُمْ ضَلَالًا بَعِيدًا)

“Have you not seen those who claim to have believed in what was revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you? They wish to refer legislation to Taghut (Non Islamic Authority), while they were commanded to disbelieve in it; and Satan wishes to lead them far astray.” [Surah an-Nisa'a 4:60]. So, is it not high time to work for real change with the advocates of the Khilafah who stand firmly for our Deen?
