Press Release
Responses to Various Newspaper Reports
(Translated)
Some news agencies reported on February 6, 2018 that four persons, including a woman, were arrested in the city of Iskenderun, State of Hatay, while they were on their way to Syria to fight in the ranks of ISIS.
They were taken to the judge after interrogation. Three were arrested and the fourth was released. The news agencies linked them to Hizb ut Tahrir, but they went so far as to declare Hizb ut Tahrir's members’ intention to go to Syria to fight.
We in the Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir in Wilayah of Turkey express: The people who were arrested have nothing to do with Hizb ut Tahrir. The truth is that “Rifaat Asn”, who has been reported by the news agency, had adhered to Hizb ut Tahrir in the past, but he left the party more than eight years ago. This is why this person has no relation to Hizb ut Tahrir.
We reaffirm this fact: Hizb ut Tahrir has not been engaged in any armed activity, neither in Syria nor anywhere else. It did not send anyone anywhere to fight, and will not send anyone for fighting in the future. We like to remind all of this truth known by everyone: Hizb ut Tahrir is an Islamic political party confined to intellectual and political work. It does not adopt material work and rejects armed action because it is not the way of the Prophet (saw) to establish the state.
Finally, we want to point out to Muslims, in particular, and the public at large that news agencies have deliberately misrepresented such stories to create a wrong perception of Hizb ut Tahrir for the public opinion.
