The Libyan Children will Face a Man-Made Disaster by Design

On the 14th of September, UNICEF reported that nearly 300,000 children have been affected in Libya after Storm Daniel devastated entire cities. Two dams bursting resulted in catastrophic flooding of the areas in the water flow path. Beyond the immediate risks of death and injury, the severe floods in Libya put children at increased risk of waterborne diseases, displacement and loss of essential services.

The number of children in mental health crisis in England has hit a record high according to analysis of NHS data by the mental health charity Young Minds that was published in August. The data revealed that the number of children and young people undergoing treatment or waiting to start care reached a new record with 466,230 open referrals in May to children and young people’s mental health services.

This is based on a survey by the Indonesia National Adolescent Mental Health Survey (I-NAMHS), that 1 out of 3 Indonesian youth aged 10-17 years has mental health problems (Sindonews).
