“...making it prevail over all others.”
(Translated)
In the speech of Jaafar bin Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, which he delivered in the hands of the Negus: "كنّا قوما أهل جاهليّة نعبد الأصنام، ونأكل الميتة، ونأتي الفواحش، ونقطع الأرحام، ونسيء الجوار، يأكل القويّ منّا الضّعيف..." “We used to be a people of ignorance who worshiped idols, ate dead meat, committed immoral actions, severed ties of kinship, and mistreated our neighbors. The strong among us devoured the weak...” Those are the values of ignorance that people lived before Allah sent His Messenger (saw) with guidance to bring them out of those darknesses and to remove from them the oppression that they suffered with its fire. He called them to the light of Islam and its fair rulings that their Creator legislated for them. He called them to لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّه “there is no god but Allah.”
His Message (saw) was a comprehensive and forbidding message, by which Allah wanted to change all the corrupt moral, social and political concepts that prevailed in all parts of the earth. A message that included all the rulings that deal with people's problems and provide them with effective, healing solutions that are neither false nor deficient, as they are from the All-Knowing. The Prophet (saw) was not limited to changing individuals, but rather sought to undermine the systems and values in society and to establish systems that derive from the Islamic faith. Islam came with an extended message that was not confined to a society, class, era, or place. It is a message to all people
“Blessed is the One Who sent down the Standard1 to His servant,2 so that he may be a warner to the whole world.” [Al-Furqan 25:1].
Allah honored His Prophet by making his message the end of all messages, so he was not a messenger to a group or a people, but he was an envoy to all people. His message was not limited to the weak in Makkah, nor to his family there, nor to those in its neighborhood rather it was directed to the various segments and groups of society and to humanity as a whole. He (saw) called them to worship Allah, the One and Only, to follow His rulings, to avoid associating partners with Him, and to refer to others for judgment.
Islam transferred the pre-Islamic society from the worship of humans to humans to the worship of humans to the Lord of humans, from living under rulings imposed by the powerful on the weak to living under just rulings legislated by the Lord of the worlds. It is a unique and distinct prohibitive message that no other message or religion shares with it in setting valid laws that guide human lives.
The Messenger of Allah (saw) worked to spread this mercy throughout the earth’s east and west, so he sought support from the tribes in order for his call to be supported and defended by someone. This is what the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, and the followers understood, for they understood the purpose of Allah’s creation for His servants
“I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me.” [Adh-Dhariyat 51:56]. And the greatness of this religion and its uniqueness in solving people’s problems became obvious to them, and its ability to do so without any other laws that were established by man, and how can this person be able to do that when he is a helpless and needy creature?!
Islam came and made radical change by which it uprooted all the values on which the pre-Islamic society was based and replaced them with values from the Mighty, the Wise, values that were revealed by the Shari’a rulings that Allah revealed so that His servants would abide by them and not deviate from them, and so that they would not go astray from the path, and thus deviate from the path that He drew for them. He (saw) conveyed his message and fulfilled his trust and handed it over to his ummah so that it would be a leader of the ummahs guiding them to follow the path of truth and so that no one would be worshiped in this universe other than Allah and no rules and laws other than his provisions and laws would prevail.
The Messenger of Allah (saw) left his Ummah as the best ummah in its hands, leading the world and ruling it, but the enemies of Islam deceived it day and night and worked to weaken it and undermine it. The great calamity befell the Ummah, and it overthrew its state, which was based on implementing, preserving and spreading the rulings of Islam, for it is the trust that its Prophet had entrusted to it. The Kuffar (people of disbelief) took control of the ummah of Islam and spread corrupt concepts within it that weakened its understanding of its religion and imposed on it concepts of disbelief that separated its religion from its life, so it became subject to man-made laws that diverted it from adhering to the provisions of its law, and it returned to ignorance and handed over the management of its affairs and its life to someone other than its Lord.
The Islamic Ummah and mankind as a whole returned to living in the Jahiliyyah. Ibn Katheer says in his interpretation: “And he said:
[أَفَحُكْمَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَبْغُونَ وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ مِنَ اللهِ حُكْماً لِقَوْمٍ يُوْقِنُونَ]
“Is it the judgment of ˹pre-Islamic˺ ignorance they seek? Who could be a better judge than Allah for people of sure faith?” [Al-Ma’idah 5:50]. The Almighty denounces those who deviate from Allah’s decisive judgment that includes all good, that forbids all evil, and is just to other opinions, whims and conventions, which men put in place without a basis in Allah’s law, just as the people of Jahiliyyah used to rule by it from misguidance and ignorance, which they put into their opinions and whims.
Jahiliyyah is not a period of time that preceded Islam, but it is living under rulings other than the rulings of the Creator. And the Ummah today lives in ignorance, it lives under man-made provisions imposed on it by its enemies. It now lives under laws that work to preserve the interests of capitalists who do not hesitate to kill thousands of innocent people and do not care about the complaints of the weak or the pleas of children and women. It is no secret to anyone what the Ummah of Islam is suffering in particular and humanity in general in light of the man-made systems that have prevailed and are still prevailing. And here are the masks of these regimes falling, one after the other, to reveal ugly faces that have long hidden behind their false slogans and false claims, and human monsters that control the world and who torture and oppress people and even enjoy it have clearly appeared.
The Islamic Ummah has face many afflictions since it abandoned its trust, its reality turned bitter after it was leading and dominating nations, it became its tail; its children are abused, its sanctities are violated, and its wealth is looted! A reality that is not hidden from the All-Knowing, the All-Aware
“When He decrees a matter, He simply tells it, “Be!” And it is!” [Al-Baqarah 2:117]. He is the All-Powerful and He has it all. He watches this reality in which corruption is widespread and sins abound, and He is patient and does not cause the earth to swallow the wrongdoers, and does not send upon them a squalling wind, nor a flood, nor a shout, and He does not bring other people.
“He is the One Who has sent His Messenger with ˹true˺ guidance and the religion of truth, making it prevail over all others, even to the dismay of the polytheists.” [At-Tawbah 9:33]. Allah will reveal it fully, i.e. “…making it prevail over all others.” And it is proven in the Sahih on the authority of the Messenger of Allah (saw) that he said: «إِنَّ اللَّهَ زَوَى لِيَ الْأَرْضَ مَشَارِقَهَا وَمَغَارِبَهَا، وَسَيَبْلُغُ مُلْكُ أُمَّتِي مَا زُوِيَ لِي مِنْهَا»“Allah drew the ends of the world near one another for my sake. And I have seen its eastern and western ends. And the dominion of my Ummah would reach those ends which have been drawn near me.” Islam is the religion of Allah, and doesn’t accept another, and its rulings are the only laws capable of guiding this life.
This is what the Almighty wants; for Islam to be unique, distinct and prominent, all the Ummah of Islam and all humankind must know that it is the only religion in which humanity is righteous and successful, and that it alone is capable of solving its problems, and that all the laws legislated by humans are nothing but meddlesome and deficient solutions that will soon become obsolete and incapable.
Allah has sent His Messenger with guidance and the Deen of truth to make it prevail over all religions, and for Islam to be the only leadership that can reform what has been corrupted by the pre-Islamic systems that made with Allah a partner to legislate and direct, and put human beings who enact rulings and laws instead of the rulings of the Creator of humankind. Allah sent Islam to be the Deen of Allah that He accepted for His servants so that they would live a good life without regard for any other laws.
Almighty Allah says:
“Alif, Lam, Meem * Do people think once they say, “We believe,” that they will be left without being put to the test? * We certainly tested those before them. And ˹in this way˺ Allah will clearly distinguish between those who are truthful and those who are liars.” [Al-‘Ankabut 29:1-3]. Allah set His Sunnah to scrutinize His servants who believed and distinguish the truthful ones. An exam in which He will test their piety and patience in worshiping Him and their sincerity in supporting His Deen and raising His banner.
“Do you think you will be admitted into Paradise without being tested like those before you? They were afflicted with suffering and adversity and were so ˹violently˺ shaken that ˹even˺ the Messenger and the believers with him cried out, “When will Allah’s help come?” Indeed, Allah’s help is ˹always˺ near.” [Al-Baqara 2:214]. Trials and tribulations that our Messenger (saw) and his companions went through, in order to convey this religion and spread it. They sacrificed themselves and their money and were not stingy with anything in order to raise the word of this Deen; he (saw) made huge sacrifices in order for this Deen to reach the east and west of the earth. He was not stopped by warnings or temptations, and he endured all odds in order to reach this trust. Abu Talib went to Abu Jahl and his people and addressed them, saying: How great is Muhammad when the world is presented to him, but he refuses and says: «يَا عَمُّ، وَاَللَّهِ لَوْ وَضَعُوا الشَّمْسَ فِي يَمِينِي، وَالْقَمَرَ فِي يَسَارِي عَلَى أَنْ أَتْرُكَ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ حَتَّى يُظْهِرَهُ اللَّهُ، أَوْ أَهْلِكَ فِيهِ، مَا تَرَكْتُهُ»“O Uncle, by Allah, if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left, that I leave this matter until God makes it victorious, or I destroy it.” This is the path of every Muslim, and he must follow it until Allah makes Islam prevail over all religions or perish without it. And what a great sacrifice it is: a testimony in order to restore this great religion to the lives of people so that they live in the light of its just rulings.
Living in this life that Allah created cannot be upright unless it is guided by the orders of its Creator, and as long as these orders are far away and separated from this life, man will return to the circle of darkness and ignorance, and he will live in misery, from which nothing will save him except the return of Islam and its rulings and their implementation under the shadow of a state that preserves and spreads it as a mercy and guidance to the worlds.
O Allah, use us and do not replace us, and make us among the witnesses of Your victory that You promised and Your empowerment of Your faithful servants until Islam returns as guidance and mercy that encompasses human lives and illuminates their path.
