Former CIA Director declares the end of Iraq and Syria

Michael Hayden, former Director of the CIA, declared that the Sykes Picot agreements through which Iraq and Syria arose were not divided in accordance to their factional and ethnic realities; and that what the region is witnessing in terms of violent events and catastrophic wars are heading in themselves towards a division that is in accordance to this reality which the European States should have originally paid attention to when making the Sykes Picot agreement at that time.

Hayden said, “We must face the truth; Iraq no longer exists and Syria no longer exists whilst Lebanon is virtually a failed state and it is probable that Libya will be likewise”.

He also added, “We now have the Islamic State, Al-Qaeda, Kurds, Sunnis, Shia and Alawites in what was previously called Syria and Iraq.” (Middle East Online)

Ar-Rayah Comment:
The words of the former director of the CIA should not be viewed in a good light... This is because there has been a lot of talk about a new division for the region which the United States of America is proceeding to implement. So in relation to Iraq then the division has almost become a sensed reality and this is because America since before the occupation of Iraq and after its occupation has laid down plans to accomplish that and has succeeded in respect to that. As for Syria, until now it has not been divided; however the reality of what the war has brought about in terms of a regional division of factions present in Syria cannot be absent from the mind. This makes its division, if America truly wished for that, a potential realistic outcome. Here it is necessary to direct the attention of the Muslims who consider the division of the land upon a school of thought, sectarian or ethnic basis to be profitable for them, that it is in fact only beneficial and profitable to the disbelieving colonialist. Therefore, the Muslims must beware of that and to work with all of their strength to refuse the projects and plans of division.
