Change is Khilafah, not Democracy which only Changes Faces

News

On 18th April 2019, the Finance Minister of Pakistan, Asad Umar announced that he is stepping down as finance minister. He told a press conference that it was time to make some “difficult decisions” to stabilise the economy and that he hopes his replacement would be supported in their efforts.

The resignation of the finance minister of any government is always big news. However when the finance minister of the “regime of change” resigns, it is major breaking news. The ruling PTI came into power after the general elections of July 2018. During the election campaign, the PTI accused previous regimes of destroying the economy of Pakistan, by promoting a culture of corruption. The PTI claimed that the main reason of all woes facing Pakistan is because of the corruption of rulers. The PTI claimed that their leadership is not corrupt at all and that if they get a chance to rule Pakistan, the tide of corruption will be erased because there will no longer any corruption amongst the rulers. So the people of Pakistan were convinced that as soon they are rid of the old rulers, the Imran Khan led PTI regime will make a long awaited revolutionary change.

However, as soon the PTI regime assumed power, people’s hopes were dashed. The prices of electricity, gas and medicines were increased phenomenally. The Rupee was depreciated almost forty percent in the PTI’s first eight months of ruling and people witnessed the worst wave of inflation in decades. Matters worsened so quickly that even the recently departed Finance Minister, Asad Umer, predicted that “people will cry.” With the passing of each day, the people’s resentment of the PTI government increased and the resignation of the Finance Minster was on the cards. This incident confirms that even the cleanest politician can run the same capitalist economy as was run by former rulers and only achieve same results. It has been proved that the fundamental problem was not the corruption of the rulers alone. The root of the problem is the system itself. Even now whosoever assumes charge of finance ministry the destruction of our economy will not stop, as long as the system remains. The new comer will also say the same things as were said by his predecessor. He will falsely reassure the people that there is a period of difficulty will end soon. However, the people have heard similar lies for the last seventy years.

The Muslims of Pakistan must not be deceived once again by the false promises of the rulers or the opposition. Both are two sides of the same coin, the current system. They must reject this democratic political elite. They must embrace those Muslims who are working day and night to re-establish the Khilafah (Caliphate) on the Method of the Prophethood to make Pakistan a state like Madinah. Only after the establishment of the Khilafah will the woes of the people be addressed and eradicated. It is the Khilafah alone that implements the economic system of Islam. Its implementation will change the course of history. We have no other choice than to embrace the system that Allah (swt) mandated, otherwise we will not have any helper or friend. Allah (swt) said,

“Surely Allah’s guidance, is the true guidance.” Should you follow their desires disregarding the knowledge which has come to you, you shall have no protector or helper against Allah.” [Surah al-Baqarah 2:120]
