HRW: China using mobile app for surveillance of Uighurs
News
China's northwest region has as many as one million Uighurs and other minorities, mostly Muslim, being held in internment camps, according to a group of experts cited by the UN.
Chinese police are using a mobile app to store data on 13 million ethnic minority Uighurs and other Turkic Muslims in Xinjiang province, a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report has revealed.
The app, known as the Integrated Joint Operations Platform, is being used to store information from the height and weight of individuals to facial recognition scans.
The report, released on Thursday, added that Xinjiang authorities closely watch 36 categories of behaviour, including those who do not socialise with neighbours, often avoid using the front door, don't use a smartphone, donate to mosques "enthusiastically", and use an "abnormal" amount of electricity. "The goal is apparently to identify patterns of, and predict, the everyday life and resistance of its population, and, ultimately, to engineer and control reality," HRW said in the report. This Ramadan, whilst we break our fast with our loved ones, we remember our mothers and fathers in East Turkestan. They have been forbidden Ramadan, nor are they allowed to worship Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, by a defeated ideology and its regime, filled with fear and hatred of Islam.
The greater crime, however, is the inaction of our so-called leaders. Where is the Muslim leader of Turkey? And the leaders with grand titles from Iran and Saudi Arabia? Could they not redirect the billions of dollars of weapons from killing the Ummah to saving the Ummah? Even if only the holy month of Ramadan?
The reality is that these leaders have hitched their future away from Islam, and onto the makhluk of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. They have cast their lot, with the US, with Europe, with China, with kufr and taghut. They have turned their backs, closed their eyes and ears to the screams of pain and tears of these and all Muslims.
Our so-called leaders do not have the intellectual vision of Islam, nor the capacity to see beyond the pit-holes of nationalism the colonial powers have pushed us into. Each one obediently operates within the decreed boundaries of these holes of humiliation and each has abandoned the one single ideology that could actually rescue the people of East Turkestan, as well as care for the affairs of all the people of the world.
This Ramadan, when we recite the Noble versus of Al-Qur’an, reflect and understand the Message of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. These are Ayaat which command action. Unendurable even to mighty mountains, it can only be borne by the broad shoulders of the Islamic Ummah. It will unchain us from the enslavement and oppression by would be pharaohs and their falsehoods to the nurturing peace and justice of Islam.
