The war in Ukraine has shown the helplessness and uselessness of the UN
News:
Following the shelling of Ukraine's Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged nuclear-weapon countries to adhere to their commitments not to be the first to use these arsenals.
Speaking in Japan, where he attended ceremonies marking the 77th anniversary of the world's first two nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Guterres said:
"Any attack on a nuclear power plant is suicidal and I hope that these attacks stop, and at the same time I hope that the IAEA will be able to gain access to the plant and exercise its powers. ... I believe that this is the moment when the risk of a nuclear confrontation returns, something that we have forgotten for decades. This moment, as I said, should be used to call on all nuclear countries to commit themselves to the principle of non-aggression first."
And also, Guterres, while on a visit to Odessa, spoke in favor of the demilitarization of Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. (https://ru.euronews.com/2022/08/08/guterres-on-nuclear)
Comment:
It is easy to see that the entire rhetoric of Guterres, as a spokesman for the position of the UN, on the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in particular, and Russia's aggression against Ukraine, in general, comes down to nothing more than concern.
He calls, hopes, expresses fears, etc. In general, it broadcasts a soft position, disproportionate to the scale of the threat posed by the Russian military by shelling the territory of the power plant.
Although, we know examples of a much tougher, resolute position of the UN, for example, on the situation in the former Yugoslavia. At that time relevant resolutions were adopted, and the combined forces of NATO were used ... Although, without begging for the tragedy of those events, it should nevertheless be recognized that the risk of a large-scale nuclear catastrophe due to attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is much greater.
Once again, we are convinced that the UN is a completely useless organization in the context of ensuring security, but “useful” for the superpowers in their political games.
In the case of Yugoslavia, the task was to revive and strengthen NATO as a bulwark of its presence and influence in Europe. And now, the United States is using the conflict to further weaken the EU, to bring the Russian Federation to the “necessary condition”, i.e. to the state of a weakened, but still a threat, from which the US “protects” Europe.
In addition, a controlled Russia is needed as a buffer against China's ambitions.
Thus, “paralysis” of the UN is not some kind of separate omission, but a completely meaningful action, as an “institution” serving the interests of the superpowers, and having nothing with genuine security.
