The West Glosses Over India’s Crimes
News:
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Mr Trudeau said earlier in the week that there was credible evidence the Indian government had participated in the extrajudicial killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil, a Sikh activist whom India has accused of terrorism.
In New York several reporters asked, were Canada's allies? "So far in time," one journalist said to Mr Trudeau, "you seem to be alone".
UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said his country took "very seriously the things that Canada are saying". Using nearly identical language, Australia said it was "deeply concerned" by the accusations.
But perhaps the most deafening silence came from Canada's southern neighbour, the United States. The two countries are close allies, but the US did not speak up with outrage on Canada's behalf.
When President Joe Biden publicly raised India this week, while speaking at the UN, it was not to condemn, but to praise the country for helping to establish a new economic pathway.
"The United States, the UK, and all these Western and Indo-Pacific allies have built a strategy that largely focuses on India, to be a bulwark and counterweight to China. That's something they can't afford to toss out the window," said Xavier Delgado, a researcher at the Wilson Center's Canada Institute. (Source: BBC)
Comment:
Canada today is experiencing the Machiavellian reality of international relations in the capitalist world order. As British Prime Minister Henry Palmerstone stated to the House of Commons in 1848 “We have no eternal allies, and we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual, and those interests it is our duty to follow.”
Despite all of their bluster on human rights, dignity and a rules based order, the capitalist West evaluate every decision on their own selfish interests, not according to any principles of right and wrong. If their interests on a given day happen to coincide with a popular moral slogan, then they loudly declare it to be the foundation. This lie is proven through their repeated hypocrisy and double standard across the world.
Extra-judicial killing is wrong, except when it’s of their own declared enemy. Free speech must be promoted except when it is speech against their own interests. Dictatorships are bad, except those that serve our interests overseas. Free religious choice is for all, not except those who choose Islam.
Now that America is relying on India to limit China’s growth as a power, Modi’s government feels emboldened to persecute its minority communities, as they fear no serious reprisal from America or its allies.
Islam is guidance to all humankind showing them light after darkness. Such dog-eat-dog policies have no value for Muslims, who must adhere to Allah’s rules for both domestic and international relations.
