With Ramadan Soon Approaching Gaza Continues to Starve

According to the UN's Food and Agricultural Organisation, Gaza's entire 2.3 million population is currently classified as facing either crisis, emergency, or catastrophic levels of food insecurity. Images have been shared on social media showing people, particularly in the north of Gaza, eating grass, weeds, and animal feed.

Satellite imagery showed the destruction of many fishing ports, markets, greenhouses, and agricultural land.
The risk of famine was increasing each day in Gaza due to the continuation of hostilities, and the continued blockade of Gaza. Virtually all Palestinian households in Gaza were skipping meals each day, Action Against Hunger told TNA, adding that some families go days and nights without eating. The destruction of food production and distribution infrastructure and the restriction of commercial imports have reduced access to food. (New Arab, 20 Feb. 2024)

With calls for a ceasefire and relief for the people of Gaza, the month of Ramadan is in a few days. Hunger and starvation all are manufactured and silently approved by the G7 nations with the US at the lead of this viciousness with their vetoes for permanent ceasefire.

With no safe access to fresh produce or proteins, people of Gaza are being forced to skip meals and often going without days without proper nourishment suffering from various illnesses and diseases. In the Jabalia refugee camp north of Gaza City, the inhabitants "collect herbs, seeds of all kinds, and use that to survive. But, mostly, people don't eat. Often, they go several days without a meal," said Caitlin Procter, a researcher at the Geneva Graduate Institute who has spent several years in the enclave and has been collecting daily testimonies from Gazans since October 7, 2023. The people of Gaza who some have desperately resorted into eating animal feed ground into bread which has reeling effects on the human body from severe stomach aches and diarrhea. The cruelty did not stop there, the Jewish entity has banned such animal feed products from entering the Gaza Strip. Food staples are becoming harder to come by and are exploited when falling into the wrong hands of the greedy and corrupt. It is only Allah (swt) that feeds them from the natural green leaves that have sprouted after the cold heavy rainfalls in the past few weeks.

Ramadan is the month fast and worship for Muslims as commanded by Allah (swt). However the command that is intentionally overlooked is to bring nusrah (material support) to one’s fellow Muslim brothers and sisters from the genocide and starvation. Those in ranks of power, authority and strength must do their part to absolve themselves from the sin of their agent rulers who not only watch idly but collude with the criminal Jewish entity in sustaining their population from foodstuff, fresh produce and other supplies via the UAE, Jordan and Turkiye land bridge.

Time is nearing for the blessed month of Ramadan and we pray deeply for the immediate relief to our Ummah in Gaza. Hopefully this Ramadan will be a time for the much needed liberation of the Gaza Strip and all of Palestine from the criminal occupation and genocide.
