US Elections and the Leadership Crisis in the West!

Kamala Harris was nominated by the US Democratic Party for the 2024 presidential election. She has secured enough votes from delegates to become her party’s nominee for president, Democratic National Committee Chair said.

The West is struggling with a severe leadership crisis. To elaborate this statement, we need to review the elections that were or will be held in 2024 in various European countries and the US. Seeing that, we completely figure out that the candidates who want to take office in these countries are seen to be either mentally ill or having no value-driven ideology or unqualified in terms of political leadership.

In the US, the 81-year-old lame duck Biden was forced to quit the presidential race while Kamala Harris being endorsed to stand against Donald Trump. The ironic part is that the US voters and/or electors have no other choice other than jumping out of the pan into the fire. Donald Trump is a narcissistic and chaotic person while Kamala Harris lacks the required leadership capabilities to run the country.

This problem is not only seen to be rampant in the US, such a crisis is also seen in Europe. The result of the French legislative elections and the victory of the left-wing coalition has created many uncertainties about the political future of this country in the eye of the public; and, on top of that, it has added to the complexity of electing the next prime minister of the country. The crisis of leadership has also impacted the United Kingdom. In the UK, four Prime Ministers have taken and left the office over the past four years. Following the post-Brexit, the UK is still struggling to find a right political leader but they’ve been unable to get one. Such a situation shows an in-depth leadership crisis in the Western world.

What is notable is that the current leaders who are in power in Europe and the US are not comparable to the leaders of a few decades ago; and in terms of leadership attributes, effectiveness, understanding of international politics and Western values, they seem to be at a very low level compared to their previous leaders. Looking carefully at the speeches and agendas of these leaders, one would figure out that they lack those Western values that their countries and former leaders have been calling the world to for years.

Similarly, in terms of value-driven ideology, possessing charisma to influencing their competitors and unifying America’s allies, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are completely different from those of the presidents of the United States who led the country a few decades ago. Today, America is facing mental, inexperienced and worn out, which has put the political credibility of US at higher risk. That’s to say, Biden is a symbol of a paralyzed America, Trump is a symbol of an insane America, and Kamala Harris is a symbol of a weak character with a strange background.

However, the great Western governments, including the US, have institutions and structures that can reduce the negative impact of their unpopular leaders to some extent. While since those institutions are controlled by the same weak figures, chances are they will also become weak and corrupt.

This crisis clearly reveals the decline and backwardness of the West. When the ideologies are degraded, they lose the ability to produce effective leaders. The West is currently in such a place. But it is unfortunate to see that the rulers of Islamic lands have turned into stooges of such incompetent and weak leaders and serve them with extreme loyalty. In addition to other opportunities, the leadership crisis in the West has provided the Muslim Ummah with the greatest chance to make political use of this crisis and liberate themselves from the influence of these weak leaders.

Today’s world is in desperate need of faithful, pious, wise, just, and persistent leaders who should not only lead the Muslims, but also be a role model of leadership for other nations. Undoubtedly, it’s the Second Rightly-Guided Caliphate (Khilafah Rashidah) that would raise the bravest, wisest and the most just leaders among the Ummah who will save the world from the evil of the Dajjal of the century and the Western capitalist governments.

[قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِ ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلْأَرْضَ لِلَّهِ يُورِثُهَا مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ]

“Moses reassured his people, “Seek Allah’s help and be patient. Indeed, the earth belongs to Allah ˹alone˺. He grants it to whoever He chooses of His servants. The ultimate outcome belongs ˹only˺ to the righteous.” [Al-Araf: 128]
