The Government of India Sentences Muslims to Life Imprisonment for Guiding Oppressed People to Islam

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Lucknow on Wednesday (September 11, 2024) sentenced Islamic scholar and preacher Maulana Kalim Siddiqui along with 11 others to life imprisonment in an illegal religious conversion case. The court sentenced four other accused — Kunal Ashok Chaudhary, Rahul Bola, Mannu Yadav and Salim — to 10 years of imprisonment along with fines according to the relevant Sections imposed on them. Comment:

Democracy claims to uphold freedom of expression and freedom of religion. However, when it comes to Islam, Democracy has a different standard. The Hindu mushrikeen within the Indian ruling elite have revealed their enmity against the Muslims. Allah (swt) warned the believers of the enmity of all mushrikeen, which include the Hindus,

[لَتَجِدَنَّ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَدَاوَةً لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا الْيَهُودَ وَالَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا]

“You will surely find the most severe in enmity towards the believers to be the Jews and polytheists.” [TMQ Surah Al-Maidah 5:82].

Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui is a highly respected Islamic Alim and Daee’ who has devoted much of his life to spreading the message of Islam in India. His character is known to be upright, and he has consistently worked towards peaceful dialogue. The decision to imprison a 67-year-old man who has spent decades preaching the message of Islam exposes the hypocrisy of Democracy.  It underscores how the state’s machinery suppresses Muslims and Islam. The harsh punishment meted out in this case reveals a Hindu leadership that is increasingly intolerant of Islam. The message sent through this verdict is clear: Muslims face disproportionate consequences when it comes to exercising their freedom of religion and expression in democracies.

The Hindu leadership has failed the people of India. It is natural that the oppressed will turn to Islam. The “Untouchables” of India face severe social inequality because of varnasasthra belief of the Hindu mushrikeen, which gives value according to lineage and forefathers. Through Islam, the “Untouchables” become noble sons of Adam (as) aspiring for Jannah.  The Prophet (saw) said,

«إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ أَذْهَبَ عَنْكُمْ عُبِّيَّةَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَفَخْرَهَا بِالآبَاءِ مُؤْمِنٌ تَقِيٌّ وَفَاجِرٌ شَقِيٌّ أَنْتُمْ بَنُو آدَمَ وَآدَمُ مِنْ تُرَابٍ لَيَدَعَنَّ رِجَالٌ فَخْرَهُمْ بِأَقْوَامٍ إِنَّمَا هُمْ فَحْمٌ مِنْ فَحْمِ جَهَنَّمَ أَوْ لَيَكُونُنَّ أَهْوَنَ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنَ الْجِعْلاَنِ الَّتِي تَدْفَعُ بِأَنْفِهَا النَّتْنَ»

“Allah ﷻ has removed from you the pride of the era of ignorance, and its boasting about forefathers. One is only a pious believer or a miserable sinner. You are all sons of Adam (as), and Adam (as) came from dust. Let the people stop boasting about their forefathers. They are merely fuel in Jahannam, or they will certainly be of less account with Allah ﷻ than the beetle which rolls dung with its snout.” [Abu Daud]

The people of the Indian Subcontinent are in dire need of an authority ruling by Islam. Islam entered the Indian Subcontinent during the era of the Khilafah Rashidah. The Khilafah gave the Muslims a powerful support to carry Dawah to the oppressed people of the Indian Subcontinent. The people of the Indian Subcontinent embraced Islam in legions, and in the present day number hundreds of millions within India itself. The establishment of the Khilafah is a Shariah obligation on all Muslims, wherever they may be. Let the Muslims of India work for the establishment of the Khilafah (Caliphate) on the Method of Prophethood.
