Background

Muslims are under constant pressure in Denmark and Islam is constantly demonized. For example, several prominent politicians and voices in the public debate declared that they wanted a complete cessation of "Muslim immigration" despite their acknowledgment that this is blatant discrimination and in violation of international conventions.

It is now clear that when it comes to the debate on Islam and Muslims, no proposal is too excessive, and even the most radical and hateful positions are normalized and acceptable. Muslims in Denmark is under constant accusation and Islamic values ​​and attitudes criminalized de facto in the so-called integration policies.

This spring's long political negotiations on "combating radicalization," which were launched after Danish television, TV2 showed a series of documentaries on the Mosques and centers of the Muslims, led to proposed new laws that are the most far-reaching so far in relation to the legal criminalization of Islam and Muslims. Although much of the so-called "imam-package” of new laws can be seen as tokenism and symbolic legislation, the public debate and rhetoric about it speaks its own language, as well as the declared intentions behind the laws… The politicians have a problem with attitudes and expressions based on Islamic textual sources.

The current situation also cannot be seen in isolation from the prior year's political course, which has criminalized and put enormous pressure on Muslims in Denmark or from the general trend in the rest of Europe and the West.
