UK defense chief confirms the war in Afghanistan is to prevent the re-establishment of the Khilafah
Beirut, Lebanon, 19th November 2010 - In an interview with the UK's Sunday Telegraph newspaper on the 14th November 2010, the UK's chief of defense staff, General David Richards confirmed that the war in Afghanistan is a war on Islam and claimed that western forces could be in Afghanistan for up to "30years".
He again repeated the now discredited justification saying "the national security of the UK and our allies is, in my judgment, at stake. - that is why we are engaged in a global struggle against a pernicious form of ideologically distorted form of Islamic fundamentalism. Our men and women in Afghanistan are fighting to prevent this from spreading."
Osman Bakhach, director of Hizb ut-Tahrir's Central Media Office said, "Just as he did last year, General Richards falsely tries to justify a brutal and failing western occupation of Afghanistan. His claims that this disastrous occupation is necessary in order to make the UK streets safer is no longer believed even by many in the UK."
"The real reason for remaining in Afghanistan is that it is part of a hugely strategic region, blessed with plenty of natural resources and a population that demands the re-establishment of Islamic governance."
"Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia and Iran form a pivotal part of Eurasia. Hence, it is not surprising that successive US governments focused on using Afghanistan and Pakistan to project US power and anchor American hegemony in the region. As a capitalist state, the UK has tagged along with the US with a view to gaining some of the spoils."
So by invading Afghanistan in 2001, America has endeavored to secure its strategic goals, which are to:
1. Prevent Russian and Chinese domination of Eurasia
2. Prevent the emergence of the Islamic Khilafah "Caliphate" State
3. Control the hydrocarbon resources of the Caspian Sea and the Middle East
4. Control the security and the transit of hydrocarbons from the Caspian Sea and the Middle East
"General Richards comments, coming on the eve of Lisbon NATO summit, echo the language of war mongers like Tony Blair, George W Bush, David Cameron and Donald Rumsfeld - all of who justified the war on terror by demonizing the desire of Muslims to restore the Islamic Caliphate - something that enjoys overwhelming popular support in the Muslim world."
"His talk of '30 years' of occupation are a reflection that the UK's government would be committing itself to an almost perpetual war against the political aspirations of the Muslim world - to move towards a greater role for Islam in governance and a move to shed the shackles of colonialism, both of which are represented in the aspiration for the return of the Khilafah "Caliphate". General Richards' admission that the Afghan resistance cannot be defeated is a mere justification for the "Long War" launched by the American administrations. It is no secret that, after the demise of the Soviet Union, the military-industrial complex in the west needed an inflated enemy to justify its death machinery. Such a statement is a perfect propaganda aimed at feeding the western public's Islamophobia.
