HIZB UT TAHRIR INDONESIA STATEMENT
REJECT THE REVOCATION OF ANTI-LIQUOR DISTRICT REGULATION

Recently, the Ministry of Internal affairs revoke a number of District Regulations which prohibit the distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages or liquor (alcohol). The revocation covers District Regulation in City of Tangerang, Bandung and Indramayu.

According to the ministry of Internal affairs, these regulations have to be cancelled because they violated a higher rule namely Presidential Decree Number 3 year 1997 on the Supervision and Control of Alcoholic Beverages. According to the Decree, the circulation of alcohol is restricted and must not be totally prohibited in several districts or cities.

The revocation of the regulations is clearly contradicts with efforts to overcome the weaknesses of morality and the increase of criminality that has now become a serious problem in this country. In fact, these regulations have minimized the criminality as in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, where crime fell by 80% after the regulation was implemented.

Regarding to this, Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia states:

1- Condemn the revocation of the regulation that ban the circulation and the sale of khamr. The revocation means allowing the khomer distributed among people. According to in Islamic law, khamr is the base of the crime (al khamru Ummul khabaith). It endangers morality of the people and causes increase in criminality

2- Reject the ministry's argumentations that the regulations wich ban liquor contradict with a higher rule namely Presidential Decree. Actually the president's decree which was made by ousted president; Soeharto in 1997 should be revoked because it contradict with Islamic Law.

3-The elimination of anti-liquor regulations indicates that Indonesian regim favors capitalistic system and capitalists' interest to Islamic law and people morality protection. Therefore, Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia call all moslem wherever they are to strengthen their effort to establish islamic life where Islamic laws are implemented completely under Khilafah "Caliphate" Islamiyah. The Implementation of Islamic laws will solve the problems and abolish criminality and protect people rights.
