Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) staged a protest against the film "Innocence of Muslims" which insulted the Prophet Muhammad (saw) on 14/09/2012. HTI protest was staged throughout the large cities in Indonesia such Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Makasar South Sulawesi. The protesters condemned the making and distribution of the film which is very insulting to the honor of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). Similarly, HTI condemns the U.S. government that keeps silent about this filmmaking and distribution from the public, it is an act of barbarism that can not go unpunished. Prophet Muhammad, whose life was spent to spread the message of Islam, moved humankind from the darkness into the light of monotheism, a noble figure, whose dignity is honored by more than 1.5 billion Muslims around the world. Therefore, his honor must be protected and defended by all Muslims with all their power.

HTI also demands the punishment of the perpetrators. If they are Muslims, they must be put to death. If they are from among the Jews or Christians, they also must be put to death unless they repent and convert to Islam. Thus, this is the provision of the Islamic law as stated by Imam Syaukani, Imam Shafi'i and Imam Hanbali.

Furthermore, HTI calls upon all Muslims to work together to defend the honor of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and strongly reject any un-Islamic ideology or doctrines such as human rights, secularism and liberalism, and earnestly struggle for Khilafah "Caliphate". Because it is the Khilafah "Caliphate" which will significantly stop all kinds of insults, and protect the honor of Islam and Muslims, as had been demonstrated by the Caliph Abdul Hamid II who punished France and England who wanted to perform a play by Voltaire, which insulted the Prophet Muhammad. Due to the firmness of the Caliph, who would wage a jihad against England if they insisted to perform the play, they eventually canceled their plan so that the honor of the Prophet Muhammad be protected.
