Presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan are planned for the end of 2017. This time the elections might create strong political tensions in the country. Despite that the Constitution does not allow Atambaev to stay for the next term, he tries to keep his team in power.

On February 17, 2016 after the midday prayer (salat), around 15:00, law enforcement officers broke into a Muslim’s house, at the address of Nurahunov Street, 20, Karasu, where women came together according to traditional customs, and arrested twenty Muslim sisters and forcibly took them to the Karasu district police station.

Three days ago, the military forces of the ‘Collective Security Treaty Organization’ (CSTO), which are considered to be a Rapid Defence Force, ended war exercises in Southern Tajikistan. All of the members of the Rapid Defence Force participated in these exercises comprising of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, whilst the number of those participating numbered more than 2500 soldiers.
