Have You Seen the Champion of Democracy (US)?

The U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam has alerted its citizens on the current political standoff between the government and opposition parties. It warns them to avoid areas where demonstrations would be taking place and to exercise great caution in the vicinity of large gatherings and protests following a planned nationwide protest scheduled for September 1, 2016.

The opposition party Chadema under its UKUTA slogan, acronym for (Platform for fighting against dictatorship in Tanzania) declared September 1 a defiance day to express their displeasure at what they say President Magufuli is trampling on democratic rights and his dictatorial tendencies by slapping a ban on political rallies and demonstrations until 2020.

The United States, the so called champion of democracy and human rights who pushed developing nations to adopt democracy, instead of diffusing tension on the current political standoff between government and opposition party appears that the only concern is for its citizens while the lives of Tanzanians are worthless.

Furthermore, the US statement obviously indicates its full support and offer of a green light to the government stance as it promised to deal with opposition demonstrators and protesters harshly and with strong arm of the state.
