News right Now: Behind the Bacon

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Welcome to News Right Now “Behind the Bacon”

The story of Saudi teen, Rahaf Qunun, made international headlines when she renounced Islam and fled her family during a recent vacation to Kuwait, citing them as abusive and that she feared for her life. After leaving Kuwait, she headed for Thailand, where she locked herself in a hotel room, broadcasting her pleas via social media.

Thai authorities confiscated her passport, and refused to allow her to travel to Australia, her intended destination. Her viral social media campaign forced Thai authorities to allow her to meet with the United Nations officials. After the meeting, she was granted asylum in Canada, with Canadian President Justin Trudeau welcoming her, citing Canada’s respect for human rights.

Upon her arrival to Canada, the media commented on her bare legs, and consumption of pork and Starbucks coffee. Clearly, the media frenzy revolved around her rebellion against her family and has been leveraged to attack Islam.

This is part of a long-standing campaign to attack Islam, particularly the Islamic social system, from Muslim women’s dress, to male guardianship, to marriage and divorce rules, to responsibilities of husband and wife, to inheritance.

The abuse that Rahaf allegedly received from her family was an excuse to further vilify Islam. Muslims all over the world understand that the Saudi government is in no way representative of Islam, and that the ruling family uses Islam to maintain its feeble grip on power.

Muslims also understand that our deen is targeted, openly and defiantly, and that young Muslims are on the front lines in the ideological attack against Islam. From calls to quote-unquote “reform” Islam, to outright attacks on the Quran, the Prophet Muhammad (s), and Islamic social and political rulings, the West is working day and night to divert Muslims away from Islam as a comprehensive spiritual-political aqeedah. Like Malala before her, Rahaf is a poster child in the West’s struggle against Islam.

Jazakum Allahu khairan for joining us. Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
