Ramadan Series Heroic Stance: Muhammad Al-Fatih

Ramadan Mubarak to the best Ummah brought forth for humankind. The Islamic Ummah that Allah has honored with His obedience... The Ummah Voice Podcast is pleased to present during the month of Ramadan Heroic Stances. Individuals who had a positive impact in changing the course of events, and set an example for many members of the Islamic Ummah.

One individual that can be truly attributed for his heroic stance is Muhammad Al-Fatih or Mehmed II, who was born in 1432 CE. He was the son of Sultan Murad II. Muhammad Al-Fatih can be described as a military genius. He showed leadership skills at a young age. His father was determined that Muhammad Al-Fatih learn from the best of scholars and became a devout Muslim. He mastered 7 languages: Turkish, Arabic, Latin, Greek, Serbian, Hebrew, and Persian.

The seed was embedded into Muhammad Al-Fatih at a young age that he shall defeat the Byzantine Empire and conquer Constantinople. Constantinople had withstood many sieges and attacks over the centuries because of its formidable defences. Even Muslims of the past tried and failed to do so. Previous sultans had tried to conquer Constantinople but failed. Muhammad A-Fatih’s war strategies were unique and can be divided into two stages, which are the pre-war strategies and those while the war was ongoing. Muhammad al-Fatih signed peace treaties with three states: Serbia, Bulgaria and Hungary before conquering Constantinople.

In the beginning the Ottomans were unsuccessful in defeating the enemies. The walls protecting Constantinople were 12 meters high and 5 meters thick. There were 3 walls stacked before each other making it difficult to conquer it. Muhammad Al-Fatih logically reviewed past battles to see what went wrong in their war tactics to learn from them. In order for his army to get across the walls Muhammad Al-Fatih ordered the construction of a road of greased logs to drag his ships over the Hill into the golden Horn bypassing the barrier. This was the opportunity for the Ottomans to launch a large scale assault attacking the walls. After a 53 day siege Constantinople was conquered and named Islambul now known as Istanbul.

As we learn that victory and triumph was embedded in Muhammad Al-Fatih’s mind at a young age. Today, we see youth at the age when Muhammad Al-Fatih conquered Constantinople sitting idle in front of their phones, on social media, wasting precious time, too immature to spend on himself or even saying a word of Haqq before an oppressor. Our Muslim youth should learn about the qualities of Muhammad Al-Fatih’s personality and follow in his path.

May Allah (swt) grant us victory over these traitorous regimes that love the chair more than the Akhira... May Allah (swt) unite the Ummah as one where we will shine again and raise our heads high with dignity and humility. May Allah (swt) grant the Ummah, a Muhammad Al-Fatih from amongst us in order to rule on the method of the Prophethood. Ameen!
