Like many Western governments, the German government is embarking on a plan to reform Islam and create a new “German Islam.” Deputy to the German Interior Minister, Markus Kerber said: “if there is to be an Islam that is a part of Germany, then German Muslims have to define it as ‘German Islam,’ one based on our constitution.”

He is the creator of the “Islam Conference”, an event that gathers representatives from the Muslim community in Germany. One of his most recent proposals was to fund German masaajid with a voluntary religious tax levied on German Muslims. His stated goal was to sever ties from foreign sources and to train and certify German imams.

Interior Minister, Horst Seehofer said that Islam belonged in Germany, as long as it embraced German, not foreign values. Whilst addressing a conference of Muslims in Berlin last November, he publicly reversed his earlier position that Islam did not belong in Germany.

At the event, which served alcohol and pork topped canapes another official commented that, if Muslims did not like the country’s nudity and alcohol, they could go elsewhere. In practical terms, the government is keeping a watchful eye on the rise of Salafism in Germany - and no one is spared from scrutiny.

The license for an Islamic nursery school was revoked due to alleged concerns of promoting Salafist ideology. The charge against them was that distributing Salafist materials meant that they were not adhering to the German constitution.

Officials felt the need to intervene to quote-unquote “ensure the well-being of the children.” Muslims once again are the targets of suspicion and mistrust, and now the German government is doing their best to create a German version of Islam - one that conforms to the dictates of the German state.

Muslims in Germany have to be wary of these attempts to alter, manipulate, or reform Islam, whether they originate in the East or the West.

Ironically, just as the Ummah has been victim to the manipulation of Islam by Western governments, we are also victim to Arab governments, flush with petrodollars, exporting a brand of Islam that legitimizes their kingships, monarchies, treacheries, betrayals, and crimes against Islam and the Ummah. In this climate, Muslims in all parts of the world have to stand up to protect their deen from being corrupted and altered - regardless of who’s doing it.

It is important to recognise these plans of integration, assimilation and dilution of Islam and also to stand firmly for the correct Islamic values, regardless of the consequences that may occur as a result. Islamic values cannot be contained by the borders of any country nor can they be adapted and most certainly the acceptance of nudity and alcohol is out of the question for Muslims in Germany or anywhere.
