News Right Now: The Sick Man of the 21st Century

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Welcome to News Right Now - The Sick Man of the 21st Century.

A recent Pew Research Center study revealed alarming trends about how Americans view themselves, and the eventual decline of their country. When asked about what they thought America will be like in 30 years, a majority foresaw a country with growing national debt, a wider gap between rich and poor, and a workforce threatened by automation.

They predict that the economy will be weaker, healthcare less affordable, the environment will be worse, and the elderly will have a harder time to make ends meet. Politically, the US faces a growing threat from Russia and China, but after nearly 20 years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan, which has cost the US $6 trillion, it is not as ready to respond to the growing threats from its rivals.

China has invested 90 billion dollars in Africa and is working on the “Silk Road” project so it can trade by land throughout Asia and the Middle East. Some analysts have gone as far as to say that “The US is the Sick Man of the 21st Century.” Foreign Affairs magazine wrote an in depth analysis explaining how the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the regime change in Libya were the principal reasons for America’s decline.

Most telling of all, is America’s reckless unilateralism that offends allies. Examples are the pulling out of the Paris climate accords, moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, cancelling the Iran nuclear deal, among others. With the American empire on the decline and other superpowers vying to take its place, we pray that the righteous Khilafah emerges as a contender, presenting a formidable challenge and a shining alternative to the darkness and oppression the world currently suffers under.

Jazakum Allahu khairan for joining us. Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
