Empty Promises continue to Haunt Obama
Dubbed as the president who has “weakened” America, the Obama administration has been rumoured to have cleared 24 Guantanamo prisoners for release in a bid to salvage a tenure of empty promises. This year has already seen the transfer of 9 detainees to Saudi Arabia as such moves have been branded as an attempt to close the facility. In reality however, this is far from the truth as the number of detainees remaining is 60, 22 of whom are branded as “forever detainees.” The Guantanamo system has failed to find sufficient evidence to charge such detainees whilst claiming that they are too dangerous to release. The employing of a “justice” system parallel to the Federal Court system alongside the various human rights violations have shaken public confidence in the system as they can see the huge contradictions in discourse. As the US speak of establishing human rights abroad, it continues to violate such principles domestically. Only time will tell where such oft-repeated contradictions in ideas will lead the American public.
Empty Words from Qatar
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar's foreign minister, delivered Qatar's statement at the 16th Doha Forum, organised and hosted by Qatar. Mohammed's speech was geared around peace in the Middle-East, he stated that the Zionist occupation of Palestine will not allow peace to emerge suggesting that even Jerusalem should be handed back. He also criticised the international community for failing the Syrian people and its inability to the end "the humanitarian catastrophe" there. As for the Zionist occupation of Palestine nothing new was suggested apart from stating "The two-state solution is the only possible solution that would put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people." A two state-solution can never exist in line with the Shariah, but can exist in line with an ideology of compromise - Capitalism. Qatar is a capitalist state which is dependent upon a foreign power, it is the will of that power they serve and hence it is their will that they deliver at these conferences, a solution formed in Kufr is not a solution at all but an extension of the problem.
Ennahda Abandons Islamic Governance
After decades in exile, Ennahda emerged victorious in the first elections in the Arab spring. But ever since those days of great hope, Ennahda openly declared it would maintain the existing system in Tunisia albeit with some cosmetic changes, but Islam would play virtually no role. On Friday 21 May, Ennahda's leader Rached Ghannouchi made the announcement in the opening of the party's first congress since 2012, which was attended by thousands of people in the capital, Tunis. "We are keen to keep religion far from political struggles, and we call for complete neutrality," he said. "A modern state is not run through ideologies, big slogans and political wrangling, but rather through practical programmes." The economy in Tunisia tanked under Ennahda leadership and soon after emerging to power their incompetency became clear for everyone to see. Ennahda abandoned Islam and failed utterly even when it attempted to rule with secularism. Ennahda effectively used the peoples Islamic sentiments to come to power, and once in power it presented the impracticality of Islam as a justification for its own incompetency.
