The Betrayal of Muslim Leaders Facilitates Zionist Infiltration to Corrupt the Minds of the Islamic Community

Jakarta. Muhammad Asrorun Niam Sholeh, Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Fatwa, announced the suspension of two MUI members linked to an organization with Jewish interests following a meeting between Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) members and Israeli President Isaac Herzog in ‘Israel’. The identities of the suspended members were not disclosed. Asrorun Niam stated that the two individuals visited the ‘Israeli’ Ambassador in Singapore last year. The suspension is for clarification, and further discussion will follow. Earlier, NU denounced the visit of five Muslim scholars to Israel, clarifying that the trip was unauthorized. Local media identified the individuals as Zainul Maarif, Munawar Aziz, Nurul Bahrul Ulum, and Izza Annafisah Dania. ‘Israel’s ongoing efforts to engage Muslim scholars, leaders, intellectuals, and youth to align with Zionist interests persist, even amidst the continuous genocide in Gaza. It is astonishing that there are still Muslim individuals, including scholars and academics, who are inclined to meet with Zionist leaders or associate amicably with pro-Zionist groups.

This represents a profound betrayal of the people of Gaza, who are being ruthlessly slaughtered every day. Where is their understanding of the concept of Muslim brotherhood, which is like a single body—when one part suffers, the entire body feels the pain? If these Muslim figures justify their meetings with Zionist leaders in the name of peace and tolerance, what peace and tolerance can be offered to the destroyers of peace and the most racist and apartheid regime in the world?

Such actions can only be interpreted as a weakening of faith and compassion towards fellow Muslims, coupled with a submission to the enemies of the Muslim community.

This is an ailment afflicting some of our Muslim brothers today, who are harsh towards fellow Muslims but gentle towards non-believers. Allah commands us to be tough on non-believers and gentle with fellow Muslims. This directive applies not only to the Muslim community but also to Muslim leaders. It is unlikely that these figures would freely collaborate with Zionists or visit a Zionist country without the implicit approval of the government and its officials.

If the state were truly resolute against Zionism and wholeheartedly defended Palestine, all elements within the state should be directed not only to defend Palestine but also to prevent even the smallest opportunity for Zionist propaganda to spread freely among the Muslim community.

The phenomenon of Muslim intellectuals maintaining good relations with Zionists in Indonesia clearly demonstrates that the Indonesian government is not serious about opposing Zionism or defending Palestine. This is understandable, as there have been business relations between Indonesia and Israel, and several Israeli athletes and officials have visited Indonesia in recent years.

This situation is not unique to Indonesia; other Muslim countries might exhibit similar behavior. On one hand, they are critical of Zionism and supportive of Palestine, but on the other hand, they cooperate with Israel and allow Zionist propaganda to influence the minds of Muslims.

Given these circumstances, there is little hope for the current Muslim leaders to address Palestine's plight. Let this reality be exposed so the Muslim community understands the betrayal by their leaders and recognizes their unworthiness to lead Muslims now and in the future.

Muslim brothers, leaders, intellectuals, and scholars should always remember the teachings of Allah and His Messenger to assist each other in goodness and piety, not in sin and enmity. Are you not afraid of Allah's warning, especially when you invoke Islam and the Muslim community to meet and fraternize with the enemies of Allah and the Muslims? This is akin to concealing Allah's Revelations and selling them for a trivial price. Such people are destined to consume the fire of Hell in the Hereafter. As Allah states in Surah Al-Baqarah: 174:

[إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنزَلَ اللّهُ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَيَشْتَرُونَ بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلاً أُولَـئِكَ مَا يَأْكُلُونَ فِي بُطُونِهِمْ إِلاَّ النَّارَ وَلاَ يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلاَ يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ]

“Indeed, those who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and exchange it for a small price—they consume nothing into their bellies except the Fire. And Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them. And they will have a painful punishment.”
