News Right Now: Then there will be a Khilafah

Welcome to News Right Now:

“There will be Prophethood for as long as Allah wills it to be, then He will remove it when He wills, then there will be Khilafah on the Prophetic method and it will be for as long as Allah wills, then He will remove it when He wills, then there will be biting Kingship for as long as Allah Wills, then He will remove it when He wills, then there will be oppressive kingship for as long as Allah wills, then he will remove it when He wills, and then there will be Khilafah upon the Prophetic method” and then he remained silent. (Musnad Imam Ahmad)

Thawbaan (RA) (the freed slave of the Prophet saw) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said,

“Nations are about to unite (and call) each other to set upon you, just as diners are invited to a plate of food.” It was said: “Will it be because of our lack of numbers that day (i.e. will be small in number)?” He (saw) said: “Rather, you will be many on that day, but you will be like scum foam (that floats) on the river. Allaah will remove the fear of you from the hearts of your enemies and put Wahn into your hearts.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allaah, what is Wahn?” He (saw) said: “Love for the dunya and hatred for death.”

When the Lausanne Conference was held to form a peace treaty between the warring nations after World War I , England stipulated Turkey that it will not withdraw from its lands, except after the implementation of the following conditions:

1- To abolish the Islamic Khilafah and to expel the Khaleefah, his sources and wealth from Turkey.

2- Turkey must undertake to subjugate every movement formed by the supporters of Khilafah.

3- Turkey must cut its relation with Islam.

4- The civil constitution must be chosen for Turkey, instead of its own rulings from Islam.

So Kamal Ataturk implemented the above conditions and thus the occupying nations withdrew from Turkey. When Curzon, the Foreign Minister of England, stood in the British House of Commons, reviewing what happened with Turkey, some of the British representatives objected violently to Curzon. They postulated about Britain’s recognition of the independence of Turkey, which could potentially unify other Islamic peoples, once again, to attack the West. Curzon responded by saying: “We have destroyed Turkey and it shall never rise again, because we have destroyed its spiritual power, the Caliphate and Islam”.

So, what does this look like in the present day?

The world continues to witness the devastating effects that have befallen the Ummah in the last 101 years, the carving up of Muslim lands, proxy puppet rulers serving their masters in their bidding, serving and preserving their own interests first and foremost. The occupation of the third Haram, Masjid al Aqsa and its’ surroundings, followed by war after war, destruction, the rape and pillage of lands, their people and their resources. Nearly a 100 years on and only now there some mainstream voices willing to call the Zionist occupying entity in Palestine an ‘apartheid’ mean while rulers in the Muslim lands are falling over themselves in order to open their borders and create diplomatic and economic relationships with them.

Is there a single place in the world where the Ummah can look to and see peace and prosperity? We are an ummah exposed to brutality upon brutality and what seems like no end in sight. India and the rise of Hindu nationalists – a country many observers report is on the brink of genocide.

China openly hostile and imprisoning the Uigher community whilst neighbouring Muslim rulers look away. In Britain a survey concluded that the Muslim community are amongst the top 3 most disliked groups of people despite the many voices of appeasement. ...then there will be oppressive kingship...

The humiliation which is prevalent over Muslims, making them live on the sidelines of the world, at the bottom of nations and at the vanguard of history, is owing to the fact that the Muslims have neglected to work for establishment of Khilafah. They have failed to take the initiative to appoint a Khaleefah for them in compliance with the Shar’ee ruling which, as we have seen and known, makes it an obligation similar to Salah, Fasting and Hajj. So, any negligence and carelessness as regards to the work to resume the Islamic way of life is one of the greatest crimes and sins. That is why, appointment of a Khalifaah for this Ummah is a binding obligation in order to apply the rulings upon the Muslims and carry the Islamic Da’wah to all over the world.

In a narration, it is said, “The Sultan is the shadow of Allah (swt) on the earth.” It is also said, “Sixty years of an unjust Imam is better than a single night without Imam.” The experience shows the same and for that reason, the as-Salaf as-Saleh like Fuzail Bin Ayaz and Ahmad Bin Hanbal said, “if we have had a call to be answered, we would use that to call for the Sultan.” Ibn Khaldun said in Al-Muqaddimah, “Imaamah is wajib and its obligation in the Shari’ah is known by the Unanimous Consensus of the Sahabah and the Tabi’een, as the Companions of our beloved Prophet (saw) at his death hastened to give pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr (ra) and handed over the responsibility of Khilafah to him to take care of their affairs before the burial of the Prophet (saw). Same was the case with the issue of Imaamah in the centuries to come as the people (Muslims) did not leave the matter, thus avoiding chaos in any age. So, it indicates a clear and binding consensus on the obligation to appoint the Khaleefah.”

Nothing is more comforting for the soul, more appealing to the eyes and more gratifying for the hearts than seeing the youth who work with unparalleled enthusiasm to revive the effaced Sunnah and to suppress the reprehensible evil that is widespread here and there. How blessed are they and their place of return! Would they stand shoulder to shoulder with grandfathers to revive the great obligations of the Deen, the obligation without which there is no establishment of the Deen; they would have combined two virtues. One of them is greater in reward and nobler in its value, whilst the second cannot be achieved without the first.

In the time of oppressive rule in the Muslim World, it is a source of hope and inspiration that the bushra (glad tidings) of the Messenger of Allah (saw) indicate that the Khilafah will indeed return. Moreover, the Khilafah which will return will be of specific characteristics. It is going to be like the first Khilafah, established by the great Companions (ra) of the Messenger of Allah (saw), a Khilafah (Caliphate) on the Method of the Prophethood.

Thus, we take the words of the Messenger of Allah (saw) as a bushra (glad tidings), lifting our hearts from grief at the sad situation of the Ummah under the oppressive rule. However, at the same time, the glad tidings of the Messenger (saw) do not mean that we take them as an excuse for inaction. No, by no means, for the blessed Hadith is not only glad tidings, it is also Khabar (news) by the meaning of action for us to undertake. As such the Hadith is similar to the Hadith,

“You will open Constantinople. The best Amir will be its Ameer and the best army will be its army.” [Ahmad.]

Here too, we have news (khabar), in the form of a demand to act (Talab bil fa’il). Thus, for centuries, every Muslim was eager to witness the glad tidings but did not become resigned to fatalism, idleness or complacency. Muslims were keen to have the glad tiding of RasulAllah (saw) becoming a reality at their hands. So, Muslim rulers exerted their efforts to be the best Ameer, obedient to Allah (swt) and implementing His (swt) commands, and prepare the best army, grooming them upon Islam and equipping them with the finest weaponry. Then Allah (swt) bestowed His Nasr (Victory) to Sultan Muhammad al-Faatah, who opened Constantinople.

The Muslims opened Jerusalem to Islam under the rule of the second Khalifah Umar ibn al-Khattab (ra), the Islamic state ruled it with justice for hundreds of years. Even though it was captured by the Crusader Christians for a number of years it was never captured by the Jews previous to the formation of the state of “Israel”. So Allah swt promises that we will enter the mosque of Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem as we entered it before when we conquered it.

Narrated by Ibn ‘Asaakir, from Maseerah b. Jaleese, where he heard the Prophet (saw): “This matter (the Khilafah) will continue after me in Al-Madina, then (move to) Al-Shaam, then to the peninsula, then to Iraq, then to the city, then to Bait-ul-Maqdis. So if it reaches Bait-ul-Maqdis, then it would have reached its (natural resting place); and no people who remove it (i.e. the capital of the Khilafah) from their land will ever get it back again (for them to be the capital again).”

The scholars said they believe that what he (saw) meant by ‘the city’ is the city of Heraclius (Constantinople). This hadith is talking about which cities would become the capital of the Khilafah, all the cities mentioned have been the capitals of the Khilafah in the past except Bait ul-Maqdis (Jerusalem). This will be our capital sometime in the future inshallah.

We must take action for the sake of re-establishing the Khilafah, for the Hadith of the return of the Khilafah on the Method of Prophethood is also khabar by the meaning of action. Thus, we are also commanded to establish the Khilafah, seeking from Allah (swt) to be amongst those honoured to establish it. We must be the best Muslims we can be and equip ourselves with the knowledge of Islam accordingly in order to be deserving for such a high quality of Khilafah. We do not simply submit to our situation, making Dua alone, without acting according to the commands of Allah (swt). Indeed, the weight of the words of Messenger of Allah (saw) are to be considered,

“By the one in whose hands is my soul, you must enjoin the ma’roof and you must abstain from evil or Allah (swt) will send upon you punishment from him, then you will make Dua to him and he will not answer you.” [Ahmad]

Thauban reported that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said,

“Allah drew the ends of the world near one another for my sake. And I have seen its eastern and western ends. And the dominion of my Ummah would reach those ends which have been drawn near me and I have been granted the red and the white treasure and I begged my Lord for my Ummah that it should not be destroyed because of famine, nor be dominated by an enemy who is not amongst them to take their lives and destroy them root and branch, and my Lord said: Muhammad, whenever I make a decision, there is none to change it. I grant you for your Ummah that it would not be destroyed by famine and it would not be dominated by an enemy who would not be amongst it and would take their lives and destroy them root and branch, even if all the people from the different parts of the world join hands together (for this purpose)” [Muslim].

What a victory for those who work to revive the greatest obligations and all of the honourable Sunnah! There is no doubt amongst the people of knowledge that the greatest obligation is the obligation (fard) of the Khilafah, which we must work tirelessly to revive and remind of its importance, as without it, neither is the Deen established nor the worldly affairs.

May the Islamic Ummah see what our Master Muhammad (saw) gave us of good tidings!

Allahu aameen ya rabbul aalameen.
