Nafsiya Reflections: Strong Women

Welcome to another episode of Nafsiyah Reflections - Strong Women

Women are suffering throughout the world; through Muslim lands... as women are taken to camps, sold, killed, tortured, imprisoned, forcefully married and being ripped away from their families, their own children. And through the non-Muslim lands; being used as tools of production, sexually advertised, being sexually harassed, beaten, raped, while struggling with job equality, job opportunity, and cheap labor. Some are being forced to sacrifice motherhood, family time, in raising their own children to pay the bills in order to get by.

Women are struggling! See, we as women are strong human beings. We are the backbone of society. We are the mothers, the wives that hold homes together. Raising our children to be the leaders of their generation.

What happens when we are the target? When we are the prey? When the arrow set to destroy our great Ummah is aimed straight at us, as we stand there clueless? And even if we somehow see the arrows flying past us, we can’t figure out where they seem to be coming from?

The Prophet (ﷺ) said,

« إِنَّ الدُّنْيَا حُلْوَةٌ خَضِرَةٌ وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ مُسْتَخْلِفُكُمْ فِيهَا فَيَنْظُرُ كَيْفَ تَعْمَلُونَ فَاتَّقُوا الدُّنْيَا وَاتَّقُوا النِّسَاءَ فَإِنَّ أَوَّلَ فِتْنَةِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ كَانَتْ فِي النِّسَاء »

"The life of the world is sweet and green. Allah makes you generations succeeding one another so that He may try you in respect of your actions. So beware of the beguilements of the world and those of women. The first trial of Banu Israel was through women". [Muslim].

See, we blame these arrows on tradition; honor killings, forced marriages, deprivation of education. We fight men, for putting us in these situations to begin with, wanting equal rights, which they just won’t simply give. And there is truth behind all of that.

We then go for help, security, aid, for our sense of identity, in joining, creating, women’s organizations. So that they can be our backbone against all that we face as women. All the while, continuously fighting to maintain or preserve what we believe to be our “rights”. Lastly when all else fails, fingers are pointed at religion, Astaghfirullah! In being the reason for our backwardness, our lack of development. Hearing things like, “Islam gave us our rights 1400 years ago, yet where are they now?” And that is a good question.

See, all these seem to be the precise reason behind what we go through... But is it? What if we were looking at it from the wrong perspective? Why is it that we have to constantly fight for our needs? And most importantly why are we still struggling after creating these groups? The direct reason for all of this, is lack of knowledge, firstly. Which leads to lack of direction. It is the lack of knowing how and where we need to go. Who defines our rights? How is it that we go about getting them?

The solution is right under our fingertips. It is only with the system that has superiority and controls all other systems that will ever be able to grant us our needs and our true rights. Rights given to us by The One who knows us best, Allah (swt). It is this system that will be our guardian against all we may face. The protection, the shield we need to achieve our goals, to raise our children, to be productive members of society and not constantly busy struggling, fighting our own battles. It will be our voice that we will never need to fight for again, rather it will fight for us, opposing all that stands in its way. We will have someone to go to, to judge justly with the laws of Allah (swt). It is the system of The Lord of the Worlds, The Creator of all of humanity itself, the system of Allah (swt).
